When you encounter Emniyet Genel Müdürlüğü virus on your computer, you definitely realize that something is wrong. This computer infection does not allow you to access your desktop by displaying a huge (and fake) notification from the Turkish National Police office (Emniyet Genel Müdürlüğü). The infection is classified as ransomware and it means that it demands a ransom fee in order to unlock your computer. The fee is indicated as a fine you have to pay for various cyber crimes you have supposedly committed, but it is easy to see that Emniyet Genel Müdürlüğü virus is nothing but a hoax. Therefore, if you have been infected by this threat, keep your money to yourself and remove Emniyet Genel Müdürlüğü virus immediately.
Emniyet Genel Müdürlüğü virus is distributed by Urausy Trojan and has a lot of similar versions all localized for a different country. For example, there is also EC3 Europol Virus and POLITIE Belgique Police Fédérale Virus that actually share the same interface and even the message contents with Emniyet Genel Müdürlüğü virus. The only difference is that POLITIE Belgique Police Fédérale Virus presents the fake notification in French, while Emniyet Genel Müdürlüğü virus does so in Turkish. All these infections come from the ever-growing Ukash Virus group that deny desktop access by claiming that users have been involved in illegal cyber activity and then the malware asks for a ransom fee to be paid via alternative payment systems such as Ukash or PaySafeCard (hence the name).
Here is an extract of the message displayed by Emniyet Genel Müdürlüğü virus:
