Giftssoft is and adware application, based on the JustPlugIt engine. Similarly to the other examples of this family, like RighCoupon or RealDeal, this adware with a semi-randomly generated name settles in on your computer as an Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, or Google Chrome extension, showing various pop-up ads, banners, and coupons in an effort to make you click them, redirecting you to third-party websites that might be unsafe to browse. If you discovered Giftssoft on your computer, we recommend getting rid of it immediately.
Giftssoft is known to be distributed mainly through InstallRex installer. You can also sometimes get it by using Amonetize and Vittalia installers. All you have to do is click fake download links in torrent or other peer-to-peer download websites, though other sources aren't out of the question. These programs typically work by offering to install an additional bundle of software together with legitimate freeware. Quite often, the contents of the bundle are not very useful at all and they are annoying as well. To avoid potentially unwanted applications like Giftssoft getting on your computer, you should take care to always select Custom installation and read through the steps of the setup carefully, making sure that you’re not agreeing to install something you don’t want.
When any type of adware finds its way onto your machine, it proceeds to collect data about your browsing history, like the sites you frequent and the links you click on. Depending on the conditions it was set up to follow being met, the application starts showing you various pop-ups, banners, and coupons in your web browser window, based on the information collected, to make the ads more interesting to you.
While adware is not typically dangerous by itself, the way it works can present some danger to your computer. If you click one of the ads provided by Giftssoft, you will get redirected to another website where you could possibly get ambushed by more ads or even actual malware. If you see an ad that says “provided by Giftssoft” on the bottom edge of it, we recommend not clicking it just to be safe, no matter how interesting it might be.
If your browsing activities are being impeded by Giftssoft and you’re finally fed up with it and ready to delete it, you came to the right place.
